Dear family,
The highlight of the month of June at executive headquarters was the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the settlement of Franklin, Idaho (June 15, 1860). The celebration was a glorious event.
Because of what might have been, it would not seem inappropriate to occupy a little space in this Newswire to review some little known, but important, historic facts.
During the highest level of Lake Bonneville the land where Franklin is located was within an arm of the lake 700 feet below water surface. That part of Lake Bonneville is shown on official maps as Cache Bay. Then there occurred one of Al Gore’s global warming periods. Evaporation exceeded precipitation, Lake Bonneville receded to what is now Great Salt Lake, the water backed out of Cache Bay leaving a highly fertile lake bed now known as Cache Valley. Through direct revelation from above, Franklin was located upon the most desirable part of the Valley, and as you know, is now known world-wide as a modern-day Shangri-la. (Aaron, that means earthly paradise.) Had all these events not occurred, I would have had to have been born somewhere else east of I-5 and what that would have meant to the rest of you is only speculation.
Except for the above, our household has been involved in only a limited amount of activity since the last report. We were planning to attend a ward picnic which had been publicized in our ward bulletin for at least two months, but was cancelled the last minute because of fear of a strong wind----which didn’t develop. The pioneering spirit of the local saints overwhelms me. Can you imagine William Woodward deciding to return to Box Elder because the day he arrived in Franklin there was a little summer zephyr blowing out of Maple Creek canyon?
Three of the ten weeks of the school summer vacation have passed and the most memorable trip Zack and Josh have had thus far was a trip to the dentist. But on the positive side Superior California has been experiencing excellent tomato growing weather.
The rich Fresno grandfather has scheduled a 7 to 10-day visit for the boys to his estate beginning the end of July. He calls it a vacation. Isn’t the phrase “Fresno vacation” an oxymoron?
Our combination house cleaning professional/ boys’ hairstylist has resigned her lucrative position with us to move to Michigan to pursue other interests. It was a good arrangement while it lasted, but her tenure was far too brief. If I could find a woman who showed any amount of house keeping talent and a reasonable interest in helping me raise two teenagers I would marry her. But then, any woman who came even near meeting those qualifications should be in an institution.

July 2010 - Cannon, Adam & Erica & Family
Hello.
I can't seem to remember much about this month so I am going to talk about a few things and pretend like it all happened last month.
Lilah is a perfect baby. No crying, just smiles. Ava has gone from a crib to to a big girl bed. This has increased her level of sneakyness by alot and I am so proud of her. July 2010 - Haupt, Levi & Torrie & Family
Its hot in the good ol' south east and we're still loving our pool. Both girls are doing so well swimming. We've only had one minor catastrophe that involved both girls jumping at me and we were solo in the pool (Levi was on trek, that story to follow) Charlotte was pushed straight to the bottom. Emma was in floaties because she was supposed to be jumping next to me while I caught Charlotte. I got Emma out of the way and reached for Charlotte, when I brought her up she wasn't even coughing or sputtering, she was just fine, what a natural. Whew! Levi also got a Tivo for Father's day which is been helpful in keeping movies for the girls and eliminating our need for movie rentals.
Levi helped as support crew for the youth conference trek that took place at the Marriott Ranch in Hume, VA. He was of great assistance even driving a sick girl home early (about 2 hours) when no one else could. I know that his service in his calling is a great blessing to our family.
We're just hanging out and enjoying the lazy river, if any of you get jealous enough come on down! we have a third vacant bedroom....

Hi Family,
My, oh my. June started out on rather an unusual note.
One of our cars was "egged" overnight one weekend. What made the incident so irritating was the fact that the very car that was the object of the assault had been hand-waxed that very day. Uncle Bob's quick thinking cleaned up most of the muck so that it didn't become scrambled egg later that day while sitting in the church parking lot. The smell of cooked egg is still with us whenever riding in that car. Over the last several weeks Aunt Susan has found more egg; on the bottom of the front door, on the front window screen, on the post near the front door. It's not that the "eggers" came back its just that we didn't find all the egg that day because it was Sunday and we were on our way to church when it was discovered. We can report that egg allowed to cook and dry in the sun is REALLY hard to clean up after the fact.
The rest of the month has been quiet. Maybe the Independence Day Holiday will give us more to talk about next month.

Jilina and I will be in Southern California and Utah during the month of August. We are very excited to see family and get back to the west coast. We have been busy with travel softball and swimming lessons. We hope all are doing well and enjoying the summer!

I don't want to miss this month like last month. Mel and I just got home last night from Cleveland, Ohio. Quite an interesting trip. We went there for the ACN international convention. As usual it was awesome and we learned a lot. On Monday Mel and I decided to go to Kirtland, Ohio and see the historic sites. We took public transportation because we had a 7-day pass. The train took us to Windmere and then we got on the bus. Very Scary. We were the only two white people on the bus. We decided it was probably a good idea to sit next to the bus driver. Then we got off that bus and got on another one. Again, Very Scary. We drove through areas that were condemned, bullet holes in windows, businesses all boarded up. The only thing that was open was the hospitals and the schools. It made me very aware of how blessed we all are. Very happy to be home.
We are still very busy in our business. IF ANYONE NEEDS A CELL PHONE, ADT., SECURITY, SATELITE TV (DISH, OR DIRECT) WIRELESS AIR CARD, LOCAL LONG DISTANCE, PLEASE TALK TO US FIRST. WE CAN USUALLY SAVE YOU MONEY!!!!
I have been enjoying my time off from school. I think the older I get, the harder. Then when I have conferences with some of my parents, and they are so very grateful for what has been done for their children and their disabilities, I know how worthwhile it is to get up everyday and drive 30 minutes to school. We are excited to have Crystal and Jeff and family come and visit us. Anyone else in the neighborhood, come and visit. Have a happy Fourth of July and a great month!!

June 2010 - Picture of the Month

Dear family,
It was gratifying to see from the May Newswire that Dr. Crankshaft has not mellowed between his infrequent reports. But as he said, every family needs one of every kind..
This picture shows Zachari and Joshua as they complete 7th grade. I’m the short one in the middle. They are getting so tall that if they were black they could eventually play for the Lakers.
It’s not that they are growing taller as much as I’m shrinking. During the month of April and most of May I was recovering from an illness. The doctor said I was at death’s door and he thought he could pull me through, but I went for a 2nd opinion.
Recently the school held its annual open house, an event not unlike an ant hill. Each teacher, if you got close enough to talk to, would give you a glowing report on the performance of your student, very little of which is reflected in the written report card that follows. But the evening was not a total bust, the cookies were good.
Our school district is not holding summer school this year. It has something to do with deficiency of funds, and California’s need to bolster the salaries of the state prison psychiatrists.
Several weeks ago I sought advice from the manager of the local Church Employment Office, a close friend of Corene, about acquiring some house cleaning help. She recommended her own daughter, who has such a business of her own. After her first cleaning session Zack said, “I think I can adjust to her.” It is working out very well and allows me more time to forage for food to keep two continually hungry guests fed.
I’d brag about my tomato crop, but I’d have to stretch the truth, which has never been my nature. But it is fair to say that with the cold and wet spring we’ve had, one would think we were living In Colorado Springs east of I-5.
My old friend Winston Langlois (96) died recently at an assisted care facility in Bountiful, Utah where he and Alice moved about 8 weeks earlier from Sacramento. A funeral was held for him in our stake center, where I was privileged to help give him a proper send off.
After all the abuse I get from Aaron it is refreshing to have a grandson who sees me in a more favorable light. When assigned in school to write about the person he admires the most, Joshua wrote:
“The person I admire the most is my grandfather. He is tall about 5’ 7”. He is old like 86. He has grey hair. His actions are he sleep a lot., He walks and sometimes limps a little. He has a positive attitude. He says: “Hi Buddy,.” and is a gentleman. I’m glad I picked my grandfather and he’s cool.”
Now that’s showing the proper respect to your elders, and he who is lacking in that area should shape up.

June 2010 - Bos, Rick & Kristy
Dear Family,
Lots is happening here but nothing hugely noteworthy. Craig and I finished the Accounting class which means that he will be graduating after 2 more classes. He and I are especially thanjful that the 30+hours a week, not counting time in class is over. I'm busy teaching 3 sections of classes this Spring at BYU and am scheduled for only 1 for Summer. That could change with adding another one, but I hope not.
Rick turns 61 today and doesn't want me to remind him. HA! He will be facing the music tonight when he gets home. We are waiting (and waiting) for the spring to finally come to Utah. It rains, and we have one day, and then it is back to rain again. When we were in Seattle last week, that seemed to be the same for them. However, I am not looking forward to 90 degree heat in the summer, either. I guess I am just too picky. It comes with old age.
That's about it for now. When you're in town give us a call.

Well May has been HUMID, did you hear me?!? Holy moly, 90 degrees and raining is CRAZY, luckily our landlord has taken pity and opened the pool a couple of weeks early. Poor Charlotte is our “tomato baby” being out in the heat and humidity makes her flush, luckily she has the “Woodward” skin that tans instead of burns. My children are part fish and would live in the pool if I let them. Both are doing so good learning to float on their tummies. Charlotte loves to press her fingers over the fountains (or sit on them) and spray us.
The thunderstorms are still awesome, I love east coast rain!
Emma’s joy school ended (I forgot how easy it was to have just one kid, it was a nice break!)

McClintocks are still drawing air and taking up space...as we used to say in the Sixties. And -- we are finally well.
Emily and Justin visited us for a weekend this month and we had a very sweet time with them and Rocco. Beware! Justin and Emily have added more extensions to their game, Dominion, and are determined players. If invited to play with them, think twice.
Uncle Bob has been working with the C.K. McClatchy High School Reunion Committee. He was invited to take the commission by his good friend Bevan Richardson, Uncle Gary's cousin. Uncle Bob built the website for the Reunion committee and has spent hundreds of hours scanning, cropping, and optimizing Senior pictures from their 1960 year book and then posting them to the Reunion website along with many other facets of the website. It looks wonderful and the committee are quite pleased.
A bit of trivia for you. C.K. McClatchy was the son of James McClatchy the founding editor of the Sacramento Bee, est. 1857. The McClatchy company also publish the Modesto Bee and the Fresno Bee. By 2008 the McClatchy company was the third largest newspaper publisher in the United States with 30 daily newspapers in 15 states and 150 non-newspaper publications. The McClatchy's also owned television and radio stations. The mascot for all of the McClatchy enterprises is a bee which was commissioned from Walt Disney studios and drawn by Disney artist Hank Porter. The newspaper bee's name is Scoopy. The AM radio bee was Gaby. The FM radio bee was Flutey. And the Televison bee was Teevy. (Just the stuff water cooler conversations are made of.)
Why would any of you be amazed that Aunt Susan would know this minutiae! Doesn't everybody?

June 2010 - Slade, Jeff & Crystal & family
Summer is here and we are ready to play! I am so excited to have a break from being a school psychologist and I get to be a mom for the whole summer!!!
June is busy for us, Mathew turns 12, I turn 37 and we are desperately trying to finish up Mathews room in the basement. He has been soooooo patient. His dad has been building it for 3 years, you read that right. 3 years. Finally I said if it wasn't done this summer I was hiring someone to do it and that got the ball rolling. Mathew has amazed me this year at school, he has won poetry contests, knowledge bowl, art contests, spelling bees, I keep thinking he must have been switched at birth......but that delivery was way too memorable.
Felicity is our little rock star. Constantly singing and has little fear of being on stage, she must be a Slade. She actually sounds pretty good too!
And Andrew, sweet Andrew, he is our peacemaker and the little love of my life. The kids explained to me with great detail how VERY BORING our life would be without Andrew.
Life is good, we are happy.

The Wilcox family is doing well. We had a fun time visiting Kimber and going to Disneyland. We are preparing this month for Alexis' 8th birthday. She is excited to get baptized! She recently got her ears pierced, which I am proud to say that she didn't cry! It is a wonder how she didn't because she is known for crying EVERYDAY over something! She is very sensitive! Case in point, we were watching the nature documentary "Life" and she started bawling when a baby seal was eaten by an Orca. She is still upset over it and will probably hate Killer whales for the rest of her life! Brenton just thought it was cool, typical boy. We also found out in the month of May that due to budget cuts in our school district our school is changing from year around to traditional. This is going to make April trips to California more tricky. Oh well!
