This last year Grandpa Woodward joined Kevin and Tammy's family in ESPN's NCAA tournament challenge by filling out what he called the "correct" bracket.
This year we would like to invite everyone to participate. It is rather easy to do.
Simply go to ESPN Tourney Challenge after creating an account use the password: "woodward" to join the group; "Eastofthe5".
Since ESPN allows you to create multiple brackets only one account is needed per family ~ unless you are like the Haupt's where Levi needs 5 of his own.
A few tips on how to fill out the bracket are shown in the video to the right ->

March 2010 - Executive Office of Ken Woodward
Dear family,
During Presidents Day school recess week Zachari and Joshua accompanied their Fresno grandparents on a 9-day cruise on the Pride of America around the Hawaiian Islands. From all evidence I have been able to elicit from the boys, which hasn’t been much, it seems that the most enjoyable leg of the trip was the last day when they traveled by auto (mine) from Manteca to Sacramento. During their absence, there was about as much activity around my house as one would find at the Price Funeral Chapel. In fact, l was so bored I was tempted to go out on Watt Avenue and throw myself in front of a bicycle, or even more extreme, do some home teaching. Which reminds me to ask, has anyone seen Aaron lately? And how about Kristy’s clan? Not one reported in last month.
My long-time friend, Dave Whitmer, died on February 1. Some of you will remember Dave was my 1st counselor in the stake presidency. With Don Grimes and Bill Cartwright having died several years ago, I ’m now the only one still standing. I was happy to see so many of my old friends at the funeral, but some of them looked worse than Dave.
And on the subject of life’s uncertainties, our neighbor, Mary Sidebotham, 84, is seriously ailing and unless President Obama is able to quickly solve the nation’s health insurance crisis, Mary could soon be uninsurable.
On a happier note, a few days ago after watching the snow pile up in the east, listening to the radio report of the hundreds of thousands of people without power, and hearing Kevin put a positive spin on the terrible weather in Colorado Spring, I was prompted to fire up my rototiller and plow my garden in anticipation of again producing a bumper tomato crop. And considering the heavy snow that has fallen in Cache Valley, Franklin probably looks better right now than it will all year.

March 2010 - Cannon, Adam & Erica & Family
This month has been fine for us here in Fresno. Erica and the girls are doing fine. Maja and Annika are enrolled in a cooking class and we have the honor of trying to eat what they made on Thursday nights. Sometimes the magic works and sometimes it doesn't. Ava is still a stinker and she loves playing to part. I was part of a firefight on the 25th of this month. Some of you may have seen or heard about it on the news. We lost two, One Reedly PD Officer and one Fresno County Sheriff Deputy. We will be blessing Lilah on the 7th of March. I hope I don't mess up and try to bless her with the ability to walk on water, maybe just the ability to survive this crazy house. I am totally out numbered.

March 2010 - Haupt, Levi & Torrie & Family
It’s amazing that a month that has only 28 days can seem so long. This marks the fourth month since we moved from the cold white tundra of Upstate NY. HOWEVER, the weather obviously didn’t get the memo. It wasn’t much different from our previous winter, we’re hoping spring comes soon; we’re a little perturbed with that dang Ground-hog….
This was a month of changes, Charlotte ended the month with all her molars in, we’re currently working on the eye-teeth, and hopefully we’ll be done soon. Emma is officially potty-trained, it’s all panties now…. Yay that’s a savings! Levi is settling into his job, his upgraded security clearance is underway, and he’s really enjoying being the 1st counselor in Young Men’s. I got a new calling as a nursery worker; I’m also in charge of the music in there. Speaking of singing, Charlotte loves to sing and usually gets the last note of each line i.e. “ Do as I’m doING, follow follow ME” It cracks us up. I also trimmed up Charlotte’s hair; we may live in the South but it doesn’t mean that my daughter needs a MULLET!
Emma found a tu-tu that Levi bought her and has been OBSESSED with dancing with her “prince.” We spent a good part of the month taking turns being really sick, so we were really excited to get out of the house today to enjoy the sunny yet chilly day and attend church. Levi and I also spoke today (the 28th) I spoke on Prayer and Levi on the blessings of Sunday School. Unless we were lied to by a good portion of the ward, they went well.
Last but not least we got a new bed! After hand-me-downs our entire marriage we got ourselves a sleep-number bed and are feeling so much better. We may not get a lot of sleep but what we do get is darn good! We hope this past month has treated you well.

Hi Family,
February was a delightful month. Uncle Bob and Aunt Susan took three short day-trips.
One beautiful day was spent in the glorious sun along the banks of the Sacramento and American Rivers shooting the signs of emerging Spring. In fact at the confluence of the two rivers lives a sea lion. Those in the family who enjoy fishing will immediately recognize the problem of having a sea lion hanging out in a inland river...the sea lion always wins when it comes to getting the fish. Effort was made to capture the sea lion in a picture. Results were disappointing!
On another day Bob and Susan went down to Monterey to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Visiting the aquarium had been a long time wish of Susan's and so it was with great anticipation that she entered the aquarium and inquired "where is the exhibit that one walks through the ocean?" (The exhibit had glass above and on either side of the walk way. The visitor was literally walking through the ocean) Well, much to Aunt Susan's disappointment, the aquarium had closed that exhibit a year or two before. Just one more reason procrastination is not a desireable trait. Nevertheless, the remaining exhibits were just terrific! The Jelly fish giggled and the Sea Horses see-sawed. After the aquarium closed that day Cannery Row lit up physically and figuratively for the evening.
On a third day Uncle Bob and Aunt Susan found a place called 'Mary's Chapel' north of Sacramento in Yolo County. It was a lovely, quiet spot. Mary's Chapel is a church built in 1900 surrounded by a cemetery with graves dating back to the mid 1800's. Later Uncle Bob did some research and found that the movie "What's Love Got to Do with It" was filmed in part there.

March 2010 - Slade, Jeff & Crystal & Family
Things in the Slade household are busy as usual....good busy. Felicity is busy with friends and activity days. Mathew is busy with scouts and school. Andrew is busy with.....everything! He is so patient as he is dragged here and there. What a trooper. Jeff and I are busy with work and parenting which is ever-changing, especially when you think you have it down. I am trying to decide if I will work full-time next year or go back to part-time. Pros and cons to both. I feel very blessed to be in a position where I can make that decision and have such opportunity. It is amazing that when I decided to go to grad school, “just in case", I had no idea how much I would be actually working to help in difficult times. Even more amazing is the jobs have come to me, I think I have applied for maybe one job, the others were directors calling and asking me to work for them, what a blessing! Jeff is feeling more comfortable back a Wal-Mart, however the company made major changes and let go a lot of people at a district management level, trying to consolidate, so there are big changes for him to get used to. In all we are busy, happy, and blessed.

Can't believe that February is already gone!! I love February. We get two holidays from school, plus a Valentine's Day party. One thing about teaching seven year olds, they keep you based in reality. What a joy they are. Seems like the school year always seems to zoom by. We are getting ready for our final district assessment test and then we will be giving the Star Test. I am doing afterschool intervention for my students until the Star test (end of April).
Mel and I went to a ACN International Convention on February 19. Donald Trump was the main speaker. He was actually very entertaining. The co-founders reminded him to keep it "clean" because this is a "clean" audience. He really likes to gossip about people we all know.
We will be having Lilah's blessing the first Sunday in March. Anyone who would like to join us, you are certainly welcome!! Have a wonderful month!!

During the month of February we enjoyed the visit of another Apostle to the Colorado Springs area. Elder L. Tom Perry was accompanied by Elder Donald L. Hallstrom of the Seventy. Both brethren were on a whirlwind tour of missions between Denver and Chicago. They toured the Colorado Springs Mission on Saturday, February 20. I along with the other stake presidents in the mission, the mission president, and the full-time elders and sisters had meetings with them that started at 3:45 PM. We broke at 6:00 PM and the stake presidents had dinner with these brethren in one of the rooms at the stake center where our meetings were held. Then at 7:00 PM we had another session which included stake presidencies, the high councilor for missionary work, bishops and the ward mission leaders. That meeting went about 90 minutes.
During our dinner I spoke with Elder Perry. I said to him, "I understand that you served as a member of a stake presidency in Sacramento, California." He said to me "Yes I did". I said, "I was a young child at that time living in that stake." He said, "Tell me, who are your parents?" I said "They are Ken and Corene Woodward." He said, "Oh, you have such wonderful folks. They are good friends." (Grandma worked with Sister Virginia Perry in a bank in Logan, Utah during World War II before she married Elder Perry. Then sometime after Grandpa and Grandma moved to Sacramento, Brother and Sister Perry moved to Sacramento into the very same ward.) Grandpa had told me a story or two about Elder Perry in those days which I related to him. It seemed to bring back good memories for him. I said to him, "I was told that I was born on the very same day in the very same hospital as your daughter Gay." He said that he remembered that event, and that he had been late to the hospital. He said that Gay is now a grandmother. He asked me if my folks still lived in the same home. I said that my father did, but that my mother had passed away 4 years ago. He said, "Wasn't your father called to serve as the stake president?" I said, "Yes, he was called to serve in 1970." He said, "Wasn't he called as a counselor prior to that?" (This was a couple of years after Elder Perry and his family left Sacramento, at which point he was released as a counselor in that stake presidency.) I said, "Yes, he was called to serve as a counselor to Mel Woodland in 1968." He then said, "Please give my love to your father." I said, "I will do that. In fact, I will call him tonight." I did call Grandpa after I got home that evening and related to him the experience.
Tammy has been busy with the ward Primary with her calling as a Valiant 9 instructor. She, Arianna and I had the chance to attend a recent daddy-daughter dinner together. I asked Arianna if she might try to reminisce about the last daddy-daughter dinner we attended. She struggled, but humored me.
Arianna has been whipping the Dillard’s Salon in shape. She has been working there since December as a salon coordinator. Although she has her cosmetology license and provides the best haircuts I’ve ever experienced, she has a great interest in salon management. She continues to take BYU courses online to keep on that trajectory toward her degree.
