January 2010 - Executive Office of Ken Woodward
Dear family,
I am happy to report that I have closed out 2009 with having seen my primary-care physician only once during the year, and that was at his request, not mine. His finding was that all moving parts are operating reasonably well for my age, so all of you go ahead with your upcoming summer vacation plans.
I noted that Aaron made some disparaging remark last month about the Sacramento Kings. Although I haven’t yet purchased my season ticket, I did note that a couple evenings ago it took the Los Angeles Lakers two overtime periods to beat the Kings, and the Kings had their three star players sitting on the sidelines in street clothes due to injury. Aaron probably should shift his loyalty to the L.A. Clippers. They seem to show more promise for the future, and that isn’t much.
Zachari, Joshua and I had a very pleasant Christmas. And by unanimous decision, all decorations, inside and out, came down early December 26. We needed to get ready for New Years Eve. We were honored on Christmas day by a visit from that gold-plated feline, Rocco, accompanied by his entourage of Emily, Justin and Susan. I did so appreciated Bob sharing their time with us. With only one week allocated to Sacramento, before heading east to the “Tops of the Mountains,” it was a real sacrifice on Bob’s part. Does that cat need a license in California? And how about medical coverage?
School takes up again on January 4 with the next vacation being a 2-day break at mid-month, followed by a full week in mid-February, and another full week at the end of March. Summer vacation will be here hardly before the year begins. And if Governor Swarzenegger cuts the school budgets much more the schools will enjoy vacation year-round, which at least two members of our household will have no complaint.
I’m pleased to learn that our extended family circle increased by one during December. I hope to read more about this in the newswire contribution by those members more closely involved. If I find nothing I’ll ask the CHP to issue a citation.

Hello Family!
Starting in January, our family will celebrate the one year anniversary of our little Maija. Boy that sure went fast! But before we get into that, we first must mention that the Christmas and New Year’s festivities were wonderful! We had the opportunity to finish up our Senior Fall semester…actually I think we are super seniors now…anyways, we found out that you can survive for two weeks on about three hours of sleep every other day, an experiment we would not like to test further. Fall semester ended well with grades that we were both proud of, knowledge as well. Then we were flown into Colorado to spend time with wonderful grandparents and cousins, Aunt and Uncle. All of the kids loved Christmas! Maija loved the wrapping paper and later discovered there were toys as well, like the next day. The rest of the trip was spent with the rest of us taking turns having the stomach flu. Poor Mom and Dad will need to filter the whole house after all of that sickness. But despite the sickness it sure has been fun and we’ve love the opportunity to share Christmas with the Woodwards and Haupts.
Now we start a new semester and another year with our little sweet heart. She sure has grown fast! She will click her tongue, says “Hi”, says mama and Pa Pa (whispered), she walks, gets into everything, loves breath mints and carrots, loves Pixar movies, and absolutely loves attentions. We sure do love her!

Hello.
This month has been good to us. Erica gave birth to our 4th girl, Lilah Cannon on 12-18-09 at 2113 hours. (that’s 9:13pm) 8 lbs, 20 inches. Ava wants to hold Lilah around the neck and carry her around the house as she does her dolls, Annika and Maja love being big, big, big sisters and Erica is doing fine.
Here is a story, this is a true story. Last year, while we were still residing in Los Angeles, I made an enforcement stop on a vehicle traveling eastbound on Valencia Blvd, west of The Old Road. I noticed the driver of the vehicle putting on his seatbelt after seeing me in my patrol vehicle watching him. I made a left side approach and contacted the driver through the open driver side door. I noticed both occupants of the suspect vehilce were wearing USC football T-shirts. I also knew USC played UCLA on this very night, the game had concluded only an hour prior, and it was very likely my occupants had consumed alcoholic beverages while watching the game. I asked the driver how much alcohol he had consumed and he stated "None, Sir. I don't drink." (I have arrested many a person claiming they don't drink, for drunk driving. Lying to the CHP is not a new concept and it is done very often, I would say 10.5 out of 10 contacts lie to me.) I then stated, "are you sure you weren't drinking while you were watching the game?" to which the driver replied, "No, Sir. Really, I don't drink." At this time the right front passenger, a white female adult leaned forward and said, "Brother Cannon, Erica is my visiting teacher. I was at your house yesterday. Don't you believe us?" Needless to say, I didn't write a ticket, nor make an arrest. I have had to work Sundays since I started this job. I wonder how many other members of my Ward family I have stopped and maybe even ticketed...
Now I get to have my Sundays off because I was put into a Special Enforcement Unit and those dudes get weekends off. I can now be active in church again. If I knew how to attach photos...I would. Maybe next month you can see my newest addition.

Dear Family,
I apologize for not keeping in touch for the past few months. We had to turn off our cable, phone and internet due to finances, so my Comcast email is no longer valid. I intend to add my part to the family newsletter this month, but I couldn't wait to email this pix. This is the first pix of Stephanie and Santa, EVER, because previous years she was too scared of Santa to approach him (see the Picture of the Month).
I hung out with the picture lady so that Santa and Steph could chat privately and when they finished their discussion I went to retrieve Steph from Santa's lap. Before I walked away, Santa asked if he could speak to me privately. He pulled me aside and quietly said to me, "Your daughter has to be the sweetest little girl I've encountered in quite a while." Flustered and taken aback, I thanked him profusely for the wonderful compliment he had bestowed on Steph. Santa replied back, "I call them like I see them. She asked for nothing except that I also have a Merry Xmas and to please be safe driving my sleigh at night. Keep up the good work - I wish there were more mothers like you."
If Santa says it's so, then it is so. Kevin dropping me on my head the day of my blessing didn't damage me as badly as Dad has always contended.

January 2010 - Ekins, Justin & Emily
We had an eventful and fun month. Justin continues the business school application process, and I'm working on my second field paper for my program. We had friends come visit us and played lots of Dominion, our new favorite card game. Yes, it is every bit as nerdy as it sounds, but we've gotten lots of our friends loving it too! Two of our friends went out and bought the game the next day after we played it with them.
Rocco has learned a new trick where he runs sideways at us with his tail puffed up, it's pretty funny. Christmas was filled with fun family events and lots of traveling. We spent Christmas with my mom and dad in Sacramento and then drove up to Justin's mom and step-dad's house in Salt Lake for New Years. We took Rocco with us to both houses, and thus far has enjoyed it. He LOVES my parent's house. He and Grandma Anna became close buddies. That's a big deal because Grandma says she's not normally really fond of animals. We even brought Rocco over to Grandpa Woodward's. Can you believe it? Grandpa wanted to see the "gold-plated cat". Rocco cried the whole time though because he wanted to explore Grandma's room and the door was shut.
Zack and Josh were really proud of their new Christmas watches and Stephanie Daul has grown up so much!! Now we're in Salt Lake and we're trying to convince his family to go skiing tomorrow. Hope you all have a wonderful new year!

Happy New Year!
The Ekins (Justin, Emily, and Rocco) spent Christmas week with us and what a fun, fun time we had! 'Grand Poobah' Rocco raced around the house with such vigor it was a joy to stand perfectly still and be caressed by his gusting tail-wind. Emily helped Susan upgrade to a higher degree of digital savvy, Justin and Emily introduced us to three new board games (Grandma Woodward would have thrilled to their enthusiasm for board games and good sportsmanship), and Grandma Anna enjoyed just being surrounded by activity.
Uncle Bob introduced his elegant "Serenity" Calendar, of which Emily and Justin were the recipients for 2010 and he officially photographed the family of and next Junior Congressman for Arizona (and a longtime friend of Emily), Brian Hill. Any member of the family living in Arizona in 2010 be sure to vote for him. To add to Uncle Bob's photographic arsenal a camcorder was discovered under the Christmas tree. Those who recall Uncle Bob's Thanksgiving and Missionary videos will appreciate the fact that this new gadget will allow him to upload directly to the internet. Please get any video posting requests to him early, his calendar is filling quickly.
Grandpa was a gracious host on Christmas day when the regal Rocco made an official visit to the Watt Avenue estate. While making a full investigation of the Woodward premises and for the few fleeting moments that Rocco was in view Grandpa tactfully made only the nicest P.C. remarks about the "gold-plated" cat.
The entire month of December was filled with the usual church activity and holiday anticipation. We hope all of you have sweet Christmas memories banked for future recollection.

January 2010 - Mercier, Cesar & Kelly & Family
The Mercier family has had a good month. We had a bit of a storm pass through that dropped about a foot of snow overnight, but I am sure our Colorado family members are rolling their eyes about now. You probably got 5 feet to our 1 foot. We enjoyed a small Christmas with the four of us and then Jilina and I flew out to Tracy's on Christmas evening. We are here until January 4th and so excited to be around friends and family. Besides my Dad and Craig, we haven't seen the family for 2 1/2 years. We also get to celebrate Todd's, Craig's, and Brenton's birthdays out here.
Nothing new to report except for our trip out west. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and hope this new year brings many good things to you all.

Hi all,
I am writing my entry before I go see my family in Utah. Therefore, I am not reporting on what fun I know I am going to have there. I am doing it now because I actually got time to do it and have Carlon sitting next to me to show me how to add this video clip to my entry. Getting up on stage and singing a solo is my nightmare, but Mimi loves it. The real fun is that we had no idea what she was going to sing. Her song was improvised by her and the pianist, on the spot. Hope your Christmas and New Years were great.

January 2010 - Westover, Mel & Carol
December has been a busy month. We went to an ACN convention on December 4-6 in Anaheim. As usual we were inspired. Mel is now a Team Coordinator (as of June) and is able to make better money. He is still building, but smaller houses that are not such a hassle.
School was also very busy, as you can imagine. Our Christmas program was outstanding. Second grade sang "We are the World" as one of our songs. The audience was very emotional and gave us a great applause. I am searching for what we will sing next year. I told the other teachers that I was considering singing the Hallejuah Chorus from Handel's Messiah. I think after that they will be happy with whatever I come up with.
Christmas break has been wonderful. We have a new granddaughter, Lilah. She is beautiful. Mel and I are so grateful for all of our children and grandchildren that make our lives so rich. As many of you already know, Mel's son Niel has been asked to join the Tabernacle Choir. We are very excited for him.
Our Christmas was great, very relaxing and enjoyable. We had three little girls that spread out and went on a search and destroy mission. (Just kidding!)
Saturday, Mel baptized his grandniece, Hailey, and on Sunday confirmed her. It was nice going back and seeing a lot of old friends in the other ward.
Mel and I have been asked to chaperone the Quad Stake New Year's Eve dance for the youth. We are dusting off our dancing shoes and practicing so we can show them younguns how it is done. (That is if we don't have a heart attack first!)
Love talking to a lot of you on face book and keeping us up to date with your lives. Have a great month.

January 2010 - Wilcox, Todd & Tracy & Family
The Wilcox are hosting the Mercier and the Scott families this holiday, and we are having a blast. It has been a while since we have been able to be all together. Today, those who like skiing went to Brighton ski resort and had a blast. (I stayed home with Brenton.) Brenton and I did go pick up the kids so the adults could have a few hours of fun. We have the whole week planned to do fun things like shopping, ice skating, seeing temple lights, tubing, etc. Of course we are having to hit all the favorite restaurants that my sisters are deprived of living in their respective areas. Tonight is IN'N'Out, yesterday was Carl's Jr. and Cafe Rio. Tomorrow is Tucanos... yum! It is good to live in the state with the most restaurants per capita in America.
All the kids have had fun playing with each other. Alexis and Jilina are Guitar hero pros! Mimi showed Brenton how to play her Leapster and Brenton lets Mimi play his DS. Hopefully everything will continue to go well!

January 2010 - Woodward, Kevin & Tammy & Family
The focus of our month of December has been that of the Besseys and the Haupts coming to Colorado Springs for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. We were also very privileged to have Cassie, Jeff & Crystal and their family, along with Tammy’s brother Brad and his wife Shawna and their family join us for Christmas Day. Word on the street is that all had been further enriched by Santa’s visit.
Over the past two weeks, we have experienced a case of stomach flu which we have generously shared with one another. We hope that those who came on Christmas Day have, thus far, been able to dodge that bullet. Consequently, our days have been filled with movies, football and board games. It’s just another dimension of “home for the holidays”.
