Family!

Great news!  I have accepted a position as the stress management psychologist at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility called AToN Center.  Specifically I'm their biofeedback therapist.  I'm just starting a couple days a week and will be increasing days (hopefully sooner than later) as time goes on.  I'm also still working at the looney bin whenever I can take shifts.  The current program directer was my old boss at API, so she poached me away from API as soon as she could.  I've been here for 2 weeks and am adjusting really well.  It's a fantastic program and the clinicians are friendly and good at what they do.  Best part?  Private chef.  I get fantastic free lunches every day that make API lunches look like homeless shelter food.  AND I had to pay for API lunches.  Score.

July 2011 - Cannon, Cassie

Family- It's official!  I am finally done!  I am  now a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of California.  I will now only respond to the name "PSY24315."  The coolest thing ever?  If you look on the California Board of Psychology website under "License Verification" and look up "Cannon,"  you will find Dad, Aaron and me. 

What's next?  I'm looking at my options and taking my time in making a decision.  Fortunately I like       my job and they're not rushing me out of here quite yet.  Hope all is well with the rest of the family!

November 2010 - Cannon Cassie

Hi Family!

I spent most of October traveling to Egypt, Israel, Greece, Croatia and Italy. I rode a camel in front of the pyramids (I can now check that off my bucket list).

I'm still working at the Looney Bin and I'm taking the EPPP (National Licensure) on December 4th. That basically means I will be studying all of November, so I need all of your prayers! It is an expensive test to fail.

May 2010 - Cannon, Cassie

It's true! It's true! I am now Cassandra Cannon, Ph.D. The defense was on 4/23/10 from 1-3PM . . .and was definitely 2 hours long. I didn't realize how exhausting it would be. Since family (you know, the most important people!) weren't allowed into the defense, mom and Mel stood outside and listened. When my dissertation chair called me back in the room and said, "Congratulations, Dr. Cannon" and gave me a hug, my first thought was, "Oh good. Now I need a nap." I'm still not used to being called Dr. Cannon, but I'm working on it! I graduate May 28, hopefully we will have some good pictures for the June newswire. I hope everyone is doing well!

Hello Everyone,

This month has been eventful as I turned 29 and went on a cruise to Cabo San Lucas (and celebrated my birthday there). This is what I did for 4 days: Ate, slept, napped (yes, they are different things!), got some sun, read 3 books and exercised. My life is rough! Still working at the looney bin full time and I should be done with data collection in December. Other than that, it's been the same routine. Fortunately it's a routine I like! Until next month!

April 2009 - Cannon, Cassie

Hello Family! Things are going well out here in San Diego (also west of I-5). I'm getting promoted at work which tells me that at least I won't be getting fired anytime soon (I hope). I also finished data collection for "round one" of my dissertation which means I'll hopefully be done with "round 2" in December . . .and defending my dissertation a few months after that. I suddenly have all this time which I have been filling up with some serious xbox 360 game time. I also was called this month to be the education counselor in my ward, but the Relief Society President will be "graduating" in May, (translation: "nicely" kicked out because she is turning 31 and therefore no longer allowed to be in the YSA ward) so the responsibility will only last another month or so. I don't know what they were thinking having a Cannon in a leadership position in the first place, we are all trouble makers anyway. And we cuss a lot. . .Or at least I do.

January 2008

For fear of being cut off by grandpa (and to prove that I still exist), I submit my message for the month. I'm still working at the psych hospital, as well as at an agency doing psychotherapy. I'm in data collection for my dissertation; someday the nightmare of grad school will be over! I got to go to Fresno (cooooold) for Christmas, where I was subsequently spoiled (almost to death). Mom and I continued our tradition of going to High Tea (see picture) where we gossip, drink good tea, gossip, eat yummy tea sandwiches and gossip some more. I got to be at Alexis' wedding reception; it was great to catch up with family and be there for part of her important day!

July 2006

Hello Family,

I recently got word that Grandpa was quite concerned that I might be swept up in the illegal alien sweep that is now occurring in San Diego County. For the record, I am alive and well, living in gorgeous La Jolla, and have avoided the rioting except for the times I have to venture up into Escondido. . .

My life can be divided up into six parts: School, Internship, Dissertation, Work, Church and Social Life. Ok, so four of those parts have to do with psychology, is that a surprise to anyone??

School: I am now officially done with all course work, comprehensive exams and idiotic presentations. yay

Dissertation: I call this the "D Word" and people know not to ask me about it. I think only A&M (Aaron and Mindy) can understand. . . I'm working on recruiting participants to be in my study. If anyone tries to console me by saying something like, "oh, just look at it as a really long paper," we are no longer family. :)

Internship: I'm in my very last year of working-for-free and in fact I will be done in September. I work as a "how does that make you feel" therapist and have built up quite a practice. I'm also specialized in Biofeedback and other relaxation-type interventions like hypnosis and guided imagery which makes me feel pretty sweet. Then I think about my dissertation and I'm instantly humbled. In September I'll be an "All But Dissertation."

Work: I work in admissions at a psychiatric hospital. I decide if someone is looney enough to be admitted. The latest: A dude was found standing naked on the corner because President Bush gave him 8 million dollars to do so. "The Computer" would then tell him who needs to go to jail. I wish being naked would be as profitable for me as it is for this guy. .

I work for Aaron. He's the boss of my boss. All those years of babysitting Jake have paid off. When I screw up, I just do extra babysitting hours. Everyone wins!

Church: Yes, I still go every Sunday. I'm the Teacher Improvement teacher. I've also been working every week as an ordinance worker in the temple for the last year and a half. I enjoy the singles ward here, and I'm always disapointed when I'm out of town and have to go to another ward.

Social Life: I have one. Yes. Somehow I make time to go out with friends. I've managed to steer clear from the girls at church who are bitter because they're not married yet. I'm dating someone who has stayed around longer than a month so he's worth mentioning. His name is Daniel. Last weekend we went to the San Diego Fair with Aaron, Mindy, and Jake. There's nothing like monster trucks, fair rides and fried oreos (yup, they have them there) to complete your day. We're planning a trip to Lego Land because everything is so much more fun when Jake is there. .

I hear Emily is engaged. Congratulations! It's nice to keep in touch with the family ( and even a bigger bonus that I LIKE our family!)
