August 2009 - Executive Office of Ken Woodward
Dear family,
July was a good month and there is only three more weeks to the beginning of school. That’s good in itself. Kevin came for a weekend visit during the month, which we all immensely enjoyed, and Zack and Josh spent 10 days with Grandpa Shubin during which he took them to the Monterey Bay aquarium, Knotts Berry Farm, and Disneyland. He promised them he would take them on a cruise to Hawaii during the Presidents Holiday school vacation next February if they got their hair cut. It was a tough decision for Zack but the promise of a cruise prevailed, and here is evidence of them meeting their part of the agreement.
The three of us are planning to attend the Elizabeth & James G. Lowe reunion on August 1 in Franklin. I hear there may still be living some of my cousins, which comes as a surprise. I thought by now they all belonged to my late brother Willis.
I note in Aaron’s last report he goes surfing every Friday at 6:15 am at Tourmaline, and says he will see all of us there. I have no idea what, or where, Tourmaline is, or whether it is east or west of I-5. It seems to me he would be well advised to spend his free time life guarding at his pool, and working on that 2nd book, which leads me to ask, “when are we going to see the first one?”

August 2009 - Bos, Rick & Kristy
Lot's has happened since I last contributed to this newsletter. Todd and Sarah and Katelyn are now official residents of Utah, as am I. Who would have ever thought we die hard Californians would find ourselves living in the "tops of the Rocky Mountains", although I'm sure Kevin would disagree who lives at the highest altitude. He wins. I am still adjusting to 4500 feet. At any rate, Todd officially moved to Saratoga Springs at the beginning of July and is now a "stay at home Dad," until he finds a job. However, their main purpose in being here is to finish their degrees. Sarah is working for now, and they both plan to take classes in the Fall.
Rick and I went to Nashville Tennessee last month for another Trade Show, and it was a wonderful trip. Before the rest of the "crew" arrived to set up the XP Audio booth, we went a few days earlier and visited Civil War battlefields, on at Chippawaga, and another in Franklin Tennessee. It turns out that Craig's last area of his mission was in the Chippawaga area which is very near Chattanooga. We saw Ruby Falls, and Lookout Mountain, ate at a typical family run restaurant with all sorts of local food (very yummie.) Tennessee is a very beautiful state and we loved our time there.
Rick is very busy with his company as they are working towards getting into full production of three long awaited products, and I am spending my time being Grandma to Katelyn and working at BYU. I want to spend more Grandma time with the rest of my grandchildren, Alexis and Brenton, but they are so very busy these days, that I have to make reservations to see them.
That is it for now. I have no doubt that there will be more to come. Boredom is never an issue at our house.

August 2009 - Haupt, Levi & Torrie & Family
WELL this has been one crazy month! The weather has been a little extreme with thunderstorms and flooding, we’re glad we live on the second floor! Most of our month was consumed in a visit with Grandma and Poppa “Word”. We sure had fun while they were here and were able to take them to several of our favorite places locally as well as more touristy attractions. We spent a day out in Palmyra which was capped viewing the final night of the Hill Cumorah pageant. It was a fun experience to be in such a sacred and historic place. If our kids were older we would definitely try to find some way to volunteer for the pageant.
We also had fun in Lake Placid, and were able to visit “THE Rink” the home of the famous “Miracle on Ice” in the 1980 Olympics.
We also spent a long weekend in NYC where we did the whole touristy thing visiting, the financial district (for poppa word), Ground Zero, doing a harbor cruise to see the Statue of Liberty, visiting Times Square, the Disney store, the American Museum of Natural History, Top of the “Roc”kefeller center, and attending the ward that meets in the building that houses the Manhattan temple. It’s a little slow going in the city with two little ones, but we still enjoyed ourselves and we hope that Grandma and Poppa did too.
Beyond that, a major milestone has been reached, Charlotte is officially crawling (not just worming) and cruising as well. She was my bigger baby and had a hard time clearing the floor. I thought she was going to go from worming to walking but she has finally made the effort to be more “energy efficient”, and is happier despite her 5 teeth coming in at once. Emma is still cracking us up with her antics and is trying hard to be a good big sister and not engage in sibling rivalry. We hope you all had a great month.

Hello Family,
Not a lot to report about July.
Weather in Northern California has been abnormal. We keep busy with the vagaries of "life". Bob and Susan did spend a day in Lodi on a photo shoot. Pretty little downtown and growing suburbs. The Creedence Clearwater lyrics have no resemblance to the community unless one counts the Bus/Rail station, then they might possibly apply. For those who didn't know, A&W Root Beer originated in Lodi, attached is the original store where it all began.

Also, Lodi is one of the very few cities to have an old-style McDonald's sporting the original Golden Arches. Uncle Bob is standing in front of that one. And we include a shot of Uncle Bob off the tracks at the downtown railway station.

August 2009 - Woodward, Kevin & Tammy & Family
July was a month which was spent primarily on the road. I had the chance to visit Dad, Zack, Josh, Susan, Bob, Wendy and Stephanie in Sacramento from July 10 - 13. I always enjoy the opportunity to experience "furusato" (the annual Japanese tradition of going back to one's hometown or place of birth). Unfortunately I had to bring my furusato to a close and make my way to San Jose for a work assignment. After spending the better part of 4 days in San Jose, I flew back to Colorado Springs to meet Tammy who was sitting on her suitcase ready to take off for New York. We winged our way to New York City on July 17, picked up a car, and drove 190 miles north to Saratoga Springs. In hindsight, it would have been better to simply fly to Albany. Torrie, Levi, Emma and Charlotte were gracious in meeting us, and escorting us all around the state. Going west to Palmyra for the last day of the Hill Cumorah pageant, north to Lake Placid to see the sights of the Olympic Village, south to New York City, we experienced a great deal, and had a wonderful time. We discovered that the Haupts live a stones-throw from the spot where the pivotal Battle of Saratoga took place in 1777. We even toured that battleground. Saratoga Springs is a very attractive community. Tammy stayed with Torrie and Levi and the girls while I went south to spend a week in Newtown, Pennsylvania for another work assignment. Upon completion, I traveled back up to Saratoga Springs for another couple of days before Tammy and I headed back to New York City to catch an airplane that took us home.
While Tammy and I were gallivanting, Arianna was hard at work for the Summer term at BYU. She has enjoyed making friends with people far and wide while completing what amounts to her second semester at BYU. She will be coming home in August for the fall to work in preparation for more schooling.
