June 2009 - Executive Office of Ken Woodward
Dear Family,
May was a good month, but not having seen a Newswire report from Aaron for some time, the upcoming summer could be a bummer.
School ends on June 5 and needless to say, I've been very busy arranging for tuxedo fittings for the 6th grade graduation prom, employing a caterer for breakfast for the all-night grad party, and arranging a proper farewell ceremony for the myriad of school bus drivers who have served us faithfully for so many years. This is the end of an era. Hereafter we are responsible to provide our own transportation to school. Arden Middle School is about 9/16th of a mile from home, too close for school bus transportation, and according to my two prospective attendees, about 8/16 of a mile too far to walk.
I'm excited to report that a former member of our family recently moved into our ward with an attractive wife (Tracie) and an impressive looking step-son (Matthew). Zack, Josh and I are looking forward to having them over for dinner as soon as their social calendar will permit. He and his family have been well received by the entire ward, and I expect Bryan will be a strong candidate for the next opening in the bishopric.
My vegetable garden is flourishing (both tomato plants) and thus I’m looking forward to a substantial reduction in my grocery bill during the coming months.

June 2009 - Haupt, Levi & Torrie & Family
What a crazy fun month! Things have been heating up for Levi at work, thank goodness for our Fridays off! Emma and Charlotte are becoming better friends by the day, mainly due to the fact that Charlotte is more mobile and therefore a lot happier! She is still teething which is always a battle in our house, but we’re gonna have to bide our time. She only has two so far.
The best part of our month was this last week. On Memorial Day, we had a great stake picnic. It was so fun to see so many people and the weather was gorgeous.

June 2009 - Westover, Mel & Carol
Well the school year is coming to a close. It has been an interesting year. We had a new principal this year, so school was a little different. Luckily, my students did very well this year. We just had Open House and Grandparents Day, so that is now over until next year and then we start all over again. Luckily, summer is just two weeks away. Time to pack up the classroom and get things put away for the summer.
I drove past Adam's and Erica's new house. They are starting to frame it. It is really going to be nice for them to finally have a home for their children. The house is really adorable. It is a two-story, four bedroom 2 1/2 bath home. It also has a garage, so now I can give the kids their stuff that is still in my garage.
Our ACN business is still doing well. We will be going to Charlotte, North Carolina at the end of June for an international convention. We have done a lot of traveling this last year. It has been very educational.
Mel is still building houses, but we hope that he can go full-time ACN soon.

June 2009 - Wilcox, Todd & Tracy & Family
It has been a long time since the Wilcox family has written anything. Recently our commuter car died (my college car that's about 14 years old). We had to break down and get a new one, and boy it's fun. The dash board isn't warped, it shifts and turns without giving me a workout, the back doors open from the outside, and the drivers seat belt isn't broken. Yaaa Honda Civic!
Anyhow, I have been fighting with an ear infection and sinus infection for a while now. Although I am feeling better on that end, the medicine that got me there, apparently I am allergic too. Big surprise for those who know my medical history. I am allergic to almost every form of antibiotic known to man. And the one that I am not allergic to no longer works for me. Oh well. I guess I would rather be itchy than in pain. I also fell down some stairs a few weeks ago and hit my head on our cement in the back yard and gave myself a concussion. Then 6 days later I fell down my front yard steps and hurt my elbow and knee. I am all bruised up, and I can't help but laugh at myself. I am going to blame it on the antibiotics.
The kids are doing well. Nothing big on that front. Todd did hurt his back again and was out of commission for a few days. But a few muscle relaxants later, and he is doing fine. He even got out of mowing the lawn for two weeks. Did I mention I mowed the lawn for the first time in 5 years... Hope all is well.

June 2009 - Woodward, Kevin & Tammy & Family
This past month had us on the road again. Tammy and I made quick trip out to Salt Lake to join our kids and head down to the St. George Temple to attend the wedding of our niece/cousin Taylor (Tammy’s sister Kim’s daughter). Tammy remained in Provo for a while to conduct a closer survey of Arianna’s living conditions in Helaman Halls, and I headed to Phoenix for a week-long business trip. We came back home to make our last minute preparations for stake conference at the end of the month.
Since our stake is quite large, we typically conduct two General Sessions on Sunday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. This time, since we invested in web-broadcasting equipment, we met in all four buildings in the stake. We had half of the stake come to the stake center (five wards), and the other five wards met in the other three buildings. We have a General Authority coming in October for our next stake conference. We will defer to him to decide if we have two sessions or one-combined, web-broadcasted session.
We have Stephen R. Covey coming to Colorado Springs. He will be here on business and wanted to know if he could speak at a fireside on a Sunday evening for members and their friends. The topic is “Strengthening Family Values”. We have a non-member friend who is a psychologist here in town. We extended an invitation to him and his wife to join us. They have accepted. We look forward to having Brother Covey with us and hearing from him.
Monday, June 29, we have the Mormon Tabernacle Choir coming to perform at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver.

They are finishing their Central States tour, and Denver is the last stop. We have extended invitations to the Superintendent of the Air Force Academy, senior pastors of the local Evangelical churches here in town, our local Congressman, and our local School Board officials. We are developing a release-time seminary program here and our District 20 School Board officials, who have been very cooperative, will play a big role in how this program goes forward. The church has organized a VIP reception for these guests prior to the concert. Tammy and I will have the opportunity to represent our stake at the reception. Needless to say, the concert will be outstanding.
We have been working with the Air Force Academy to arrange to have President Uchtdorf come and speak to the cadets. As you know, he has a wonderful aviation background. The Air Force Academy has expressed a high level of interest in having him come, and President Uchtdorf has let them know that he would love to be there. This will probably take place in March or May of 2010. Nothing like long-lead planning.
Tammy and I are preparing to head to the high country (as if our 7,000 ft. isn’t high enough) with the Young Women of our stake for a week-long camp we call Daughters of Promise. We extend our love and best wishes to you,

For some time following Joshua and Zachari’s 12th birthday on March 21 they debated whether to pursue the Mormon faith, or seek celestial glory through the back door.
The problem was resolved when I reminded them that Mother’s Day was fast approaching and, otherwise, they would be standing in front of the congregation with the other primary kids singing “Mother Dear, I Love You so” and other heart-stirring sonatas. Zack elected to be “deaconized” (his word), which was consummated on April 26, and Josh opted for the professional sports free-agency route to explore the benefits of the Lutheran faith or the tenets of the Northside Church, the venue frequented by Papa Shubin for spiritual solace.
Only five weeks remain of the regular school year, and while two people very close to me look forward to its end with pleasant anticipation, they have yet to learn that summer school takes up one week later. But I’ll miss the homework, particularly math. Where else would I have learned such practical tidbits as 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, etc. are prime numbers, or when visiting our local Thunder Valley casino the chances of getting a 7 or 11 at the crap table with one roll of the dice is 2 out of 9. Neither Levi nor Ryan need check my figures, I run it by Zack.
Some of you will remember Don Grimes, who was 2nd counselor in the stake presidency during my tenure. Don passed away on April 28 in Newman, Georgia. He was 79. With Don’s passing, and Dave Whitmer, being in extremely poor health, and my being considerably older than either, I’m beginning to wonder about my own durability.
I now have a thriving home garden, two tomato plants. I’m looking forward to a productive summer.

May 2009 - Bos, Rick & Kristy
Since we last "spoke," lots has happened to the Bos Family. Early in April we traveled to Germany, France, and England. We went to Frankfort, Germany for the International Music Trade Show, known as Music Messe. Before arriving in Frankfort, we went to Berlin and spent two days doing walking tours of the city where we saw a lot of Hilter/Nazi sites, including the Sacksenhousen Concentration Camp (very sobering.) We spent 6 days in Frankfort for Messe, which went EXTREMELY WELL. Lots of big European distributors signed onto the Forge,Bolt, Morpheus, and Motion Sound products that Rick's business, XP Audio will be producing very soon. There are these two links to interviews that took place at Music Messe, one with Rick and his Forge Bass Amp (the same one that got Best in Show at NAMM in Anaheim in January,) and BOLT guitar amps that XP Audio makes.

After Germany, we spent two days in Paris, which was one day too many. The city has lots of beautiful architecture and historical sites worth seeing, but after that, it's time to leave. Paris is everything people say it is: dirty and rude. We took the Eurostar train that went through the English Channel, or Chunnel, to London. We spent, sadly, only two days there. We loved it. Next time we will spend more time. We did a bus tour of the city. We went to Nottinghill (for those of you who know of the movie Nottinghill,) and took pictures, especially of blue doors, one of which COULD have been in the movie. Nottinghill is a beautiful, peaceful little part of the city.
Since returning home, we have had Easter with 30 people at Tracy's house where I made my" much requested" scalloped potatoes and pecan pie (especially for Todd Wilcox.) Todd, Sarah, and Katelyn along with Rick's daughter Hayley, her husband and two children, were among the out of town guests. Tracy did a great job and it was a wonderful day. After that, I babysat for 5 days Alexis and Brenton, while Tracy and Todd Wilcox went on a much needed vacation to the Bahama Islands. I'm sure Tracy will tell you more. Right after that, Todd Christiansen called and asked me to fly to Sacramento and drive back to Utah with Sarah and Katelyn, as Sarah had been offered a job in Utah and it started in just a week.
Sarah and Katelyn now live in our basement "suite," until Todd is able to come out to Utah to work and go to school. More to be told when we have more to tell. I am presently Katelyn's caretaker during the day. With the help of Tracy and Craig, I still go into my office at the McKay School of Education at BYU, but only for about 10-15 hours a week. Speaking of BYU, our office puts on the Graduation/Commencement program for our college. I was there in the Smith Field house working as an usher with the graduates as they "walked" to get their diplomas. After the event was over and I was traveling to the airport to go to Sacramento, I received a phone message from Susan who said that she received a text message from one of her/our friends who was at the graduation and saw me on the floor just that morning. Ahh, the world of high tech.
That is all for now, but for now, I don't think I want anything else on my plate.

May 2009 - Cannon, Adam & Erica & Family
We bought a house in Fresno. I am starting at the Fresno CHP office on July 1st, the house will not be finished until mid September...October. We are excited. Maja is still doing great at school. Annika is still sneaky and Ava can crawl at turbo fast. Life is great.

May 2009 - Haupt, Levi & Torrie & Family
So this past month was full of whirlwind traveling for us Haupts. We headed out to Portland, OR for Levi’s brother’s wedding. I was a little frustrated that our connection was in NYC. We went straight south instead of west; it’s always nice when we make some progress, plus, that was one LONG flight from JFK to Portland. But we survived. The wedding was great and we had lots of fun being with Grandpa and Nana Haupt and all the adoring uncles and aunts. Afterwards our diligent hubby and daddy headed back to work in NY, while the girls and I headed to Colorado for some more mischief. Grandma Woodward had been wishing we could show up for some fun but I kept telling her it was too expensive. Somehow we found money in our budget (thanks, tax return) and conspired with Grandpa to surprise her. We walked into the house to a very dumbfounded Grandma! Later that week Alexis and Maija showed up and we were there to surprise them as well. We had lots of fun with all the grandkids being there and being able to send Arianna off to school with all our well wishes.
Last but not least, our Emma turned 3 on the 26th . We can’t believe how the time has flown! I remember the first time I saw her. Now she is a bright, beautiful little girl who is a great big sister. Charlotte and Emma have tons of fun together. We are truly blessed.

Just a quick word from the McClintocks.
We have spent most of the month fighting off the flu. Uncle Bob has had two bouts but Susan and Anna have only had to deal with one bout each. Our weather has been a bit on the cool side but not unbearable. We understand that an obscure state administrative office has announced there is nothing to worry about because the flu epidemic in Northern California is not related to the swine flu. Instead it is related to the "swim" flu do to the fact that so many Californians have swimming pools, or is it because so many Californians are swimming in money...we can't recall which definition applies...but we seriously doubt their Intel is any good because we haven't seen hard evidence of the one and it's too early for the other scenario.
Our ward celebrated it's 40th anniversary the last weekend of April and over one hundred people came from areas outside of California to help celebrate. The building where this ward has met since 1973 was dedicated by Pres. Monson and Grandpa Woodward was stake president at the time. One of the early bishops of this ward is about 6' 3" tall and he testified that Pres. Monson was eye level with him at the dedication. One of the more humorous aspects of the ward anniversary was the Sacrament meeting. Of the ten bishops that have served during those forty years, seven are living. As each of the bishops stood at the pulpit to speak about a memory during their time in service the pulpit, which had been fully extended for the current 6' 6" tall bishop, was lowered just a little bit for the next bishop who stood to speak until the pulpit was at its very lowest and it just happened to be the last bishop. Size doesn't make a whit of difference when one serves in the Church but it was rather interesting to see that the bishops had consistently shrunk in height over the years. Your Grandpa, though not present during the Sacrament meeting, is still a memorable figure for those bishops and was mentioned by one in particular.

May 2009 - Mercier, Cesar & Kelly & Family
Dear Family,
I was thinking that there really wasn't much for us to contribute to the newsletter this month as nothing has changed for us. But Cesar was able to give me some great news today that will allow us to share something good from New Jersey. Today he had his interview at immigration for naturalization. He passed and Cesar is now officially an American citizen. We are preparing to get an American passport for him in this next week. We are thinking we will get one for Jilina at the same time so that we can travel whenever.
Nothing else to report. We still wish we were back in CA and it wouldn't matter if it were east or west of I-5!

Hi family! Well, the weather in Fresno is beautiful! It is starting to warm up a little. We start our testing on Monday. We will be testing for the next two weeks. Then, it is downhill. We will finally get to do some fun things with the students. Mel is still building houses, not as many, we are trying to get Mel out of the building business and into ACN full-time. We will be going to Charlotte, North Carolina in June for our international convention. Donald Trump will be speaking. It is always so good to hear from everyone through the Newswire. Given our geographical differences and the varied activities in which everyone is involved, it’s great to have a monthly family “huddle”. I can’t help but think of our family “Round Robin” newsletter that we attempted many years ago. Back then we had no other option but the U.S. Postal Service. Perhaps we might simply consider that a prototype of what was to follow. And now with this edition of the Newswire, we start our fifth year. And even during that short period, we have evolved from a simple e-mail exploder to a blog which allows for reminiscent searches down memory lane.
We enjoyed visits from Torrie and Alexis and their babes this past month. It was great to have them here, although we did miss having Levi and Ryan as well. Tammy accompanied Arianna out to Provo where she began her Spring Term at BYU this past week. She is settled in and has command of the campus. I was privileged to get my last haircut from her, as she made room for me in her schedule, before she left. I had two business trips to the east coast: one to northern Virginia and one to Philadelphia.
Sister Julie Beck, Relief Society General President, visited Colorado Springs April 17 - 19. It was wonderful getting to know her and her husband Ramon. She provided some wonderful instruction for the sisters and for the priesthood leadership in this area.
After our respective travels, Tammy and I are now at home ill, nursing one another back to health. That’s about the sum total for the month. Lots of love,
