February 2009 - Executive Office of Ken Woodward
Dear family,
Another month has past and the most enjoyable item that I can report is that Sacramento has not been as cold as Colorado Springs—or Franklin. I’m getting anxious to put in my tomatoes. Just for comparison, on January 11 the temperature in Franklin measured minus 24C . (For those of you who are not proficient in 6th grade math, as I have been forced to become, that’s minus 11F, I believe. But I’ll have Josh check it.).
And probably the most noteworthy activity I experience during the month was zesting a couple of lemons. And the meringue pie turned out very well, except the boys wouldn’t taste it because it didn’t smell right.
School has gone well, with only one day of vacation during the month, Martin Luther King’s holiday. But I’m not looking forward to February, a full week of school vacation called “Presidents’ Days.” Of all the changes that President Obama promises, that’s one I’m sorry he overlooked. Obviously the boys and I hold different opinions of the merits of this event. Zack recently shared with me his thoughts that of all the inventions ever conceived by man, the dumbest was school homework.
I’m sorry we didn’t hear from Aaron last month, but I understand, he’s been working full time trying to devise a method for getting a cut in Obama’s stimulus plan.
I enjoy reading the reports of each of you, and for some reason last month was especially enjoyable. You don’t hear much of interest from me as I live a rather mundane life. But I like it, as I can live with my memories while the rest of you are busy creating yours.
Corene has now been gone three years and by now she is probably president of the choir.
Love, Dad

February 2009 - Bos, Rick & Kristy
The month of January was a very busy month for both of us as we prepared to attend the NAMM (North American Music Merchants) Convention in Anaheim. This is a huge trade show for the music industry, not only in the United States, but Europe, South America, and Japan. Rick's company XPAudio, Inc. premiered three new products at NAMM this year, but not until weeks of blood, sweat, and tears were shed. Weeks preceding the event saw countless hours of work from everyone that works at XP Audio. In the end, Rick's Forge Bass Amp won a very prestigious award which was the equivalent the Academy Award in the music "gear" industry. He was told that they usually give a 1st and 2nd place award, but they only gave a first place award to the Forge Bass amp, as they felt it was so far superior to the second place amp, there was no real competition. He also premiered the Bolt guitar amp, and the Morpheus "drop tune pedal." These are also very innovative and were received very well. After so much STRESS and worry, the Award made it all worthwhile.
After we got home from Anaheim (8 days of set up, the actual show, and then tear down,) we promptly got sick. I was in bed for about 5 days, but Rick was back to work, any way, as there is now much to do to get into production. The European distributors are especially anxious to sell Forge, Bolt, and Morpheus, but we have to actually manufacture them first, (funny how that works.) Craig was the official cat and house sitter while we were gone. Our cat was very thankful that he didn't have to spend 8 days in a "boarding" kennel.
Now that we are past the big NAMM push, I don't go into Rick's office anymore. I needed something to do with my free time. I had an interview, etc., and am starting work on Tuesday (2/3) in the McKay School of Education, BYU, as a curricular advisor, and coordinator of Student Teacher placements. This past week Alexis had her baby and Tammy came to help her. On Friday, Torrie flew into Salt Lake with her two girls to attend the Blessing of Alexis's new baby. We had a fun and relaxing dinner at Tracy's house with 5 of Grandpa Woodward's great grandchildren. Kevin and Arianna will be driving in on Friday and on Sunday, 11 of us will be attending the blessing of Maija, who will be only two weeks old. It will rival the Super Bowl, in its level of interest, but I am putting all of my money on the Blessing outweighing the Super Bowl, two to one (; at least for Maija's parents.)
It is cold and there is still snow on the ground in Utah, but this California girl, who is trying to acclimate to a new weather paradigm, got no sympathy from Torrie who now lives with several perpetual feet of snow and sub-zero temperatures. I guess that goes for Kelly as well. Other than making my adjustment to temperatures lower than Sacramento winters, where temperatures occasionally hover as low as the low 50's, life in Utah is going quite well.
This is it for this month.

February 2009 - Cannon, Aaron & Mindy & Family
Let’s see here, it's February and I think I should be reporting on the January Happenings. Nothing happened in January. December was busy though. Mindy's family came to visit us here in Sunny SD (west of the 5). There were 22 of them. I was experiencing severe PTSD related to previous experiences in my life when thousands of family members would descend on our home. They were here for 10 days. In my mind that is 20 more people who stayed 9 days too long.
We were able to wrangle tickets to the Chargers/Colts playoff game here in SD. That was lots of fun. Most notably I would come home every day from work and there would be 20 people in our pool to which I would say "It's December...Get out of the pool you people from Utah!" Then I remembered that we live west of the 5 and that the temperature was 75 degrees and it was sunny. Then I would look at my nieces, nephews, and in-laws and say "It's December....Get out of the pool you people from Utah!"
They didn't listen. All joking aside.....never mind. There is no "All joking aside." What an absurd thing to say.
I am enjoying my job while I still have it. The word is Arnold is going to fire all State Workers and do everyone's job himself. Good lookin’ out Arnold.
Adam and Erica and three little girls came to visit a couple weekends ago. I don't know whose little girls they were. They are way too cute to belong to Adam.
I've recently started surfing again. It has become painfully obvious that my wetsuit was purchased roughly 50 pounds ago. To say I look like Gumby doesn't even begin to cover it.
And finally both of my recent radio appearances are on the net. You can listen if you like but remember this....everything I say is made up. It's a skill I learned from Grandpa.

February 2009 - Cannon, Adam & Erica & Family
Ava can now get up onto her hands and knees. She will be crawling very soon. Too soon I say, but these kids never listen to me.

Maja is doing great in school. Annika is doing great being sneaky at home. Erica is going crazy because we now have 3 girls. I work a lot, and I was crazy before we had 3 girls. We took some time off this month to visit family. We went to San Diego and visited the crazies down south. It was fun, and I like the Old Cannons new home. He is old, just ask him. We also visited Fresno. It rained, and Grandma spoiled my girls with jewelry.
That is all.

February 2009 - Haupt, Levi & Torrie & Family
January has been a month spent indoors, there's not much else to do with two young kids in a place where the temp hovers around the freezing point. In Emma's words, "It's freezy outside!" So in order to displace my cabin fever Levi enrolled me in a cake decorating class, which I have enjoyed over the past four weeks. I have learned the basics, and have enjoyed learning the tricks of cake baking and decorating. I ain't Martha Stewart but it's a good stress relieve.

Levi is continuing to enjoy work, at least that's what he says. I don't know much, most of it is classified. Although one night, in his sleep, he was talking about something. Good thing I didn't understand a word. I just remember it happened.
The girls are continuing to grow by leaps and bounds. Emma is getting better at recognizing her letters and numbers and she's already proficient with her colors and shapes. She just amazes me with what she understands; she's a tender heart and allows me a decent amount of slack. Charlotte is trying to roll over, and is enjoying tummy time more and more. She's very alert and interactive; she must be a Condie because she definitely has the "gift of gab". We're just having fun and trying to stay warm. Whenever Emma wants to dress down and just wear costumes all day we just open the door and send her scurrying for her fleece-lined jeans.

I guess March is something looked forward to here. I don't understand, last I heard March comes in like a lion…. I guess we'll find out. We hope the rest of you are experiencing a good start to this New Year.

February 2009 - Westover, Mel & Carol
As usual the month is gone and I am not really sure as to where it went. Just a quick note to let everyone know that we are healthy, happy, and very busy. I am doing after-school intervention with my class to help them get ready for the STAR test that they will be taking in May. Mel is getting ready to start three more houses. We are still working our ACN business and will be in San Diego for a convention at the end of February. We had a great Christmas vacation and loved being with our kids. Anyone in the neighborhood, stop by and see us!!

February 2009 - Wilcox, Todd & Tracy & Family
I will catch you all up on the last few months since I keep forgetting to post. Anyhow, in November I hosted Thanksgiving at my house and had many people from both sides of the family come. It was a success and the food was great if I do say so myself. The funniest part of the evening was when we had an arm wrestling competition. I was the champ of the girls. We almost got the grandma's to arm wrestle (my mom and Todd's mom) but I think the grandpa's weren't to keen on the idea. (Especially Rick, he is very protective) It would have been hilarious, hello u-tube!
December was also eventful, as it should be. I went to get my lap band filled and was told my port was turned. Now since I had my surgery in Cancun, Mexico I was told no doctor's in the states would even look at me let alone help me. So I rallied up my sky miles and went back to Cancun by myself this time. When I got there I went straight to the hospital and the surgeons told me that the US fill doctor was wrong and that it wasn't turned. They filled my port and I returned to the states a little peeved!!! Christmas Eve came and we spent it at my mom's house and had a yummy dinner of which I could have close of zero of because I was filled to tightly. (Everything just comes back up) I kept hoping that it would get better with time. What really happened was my esophagus got inflamed and radiated pain through my neck and to my shoulder. It was quite horrible. So I went back to the fill doctor to have some of the fill removed. Thankfully with a little guidance from me he was able to do it. (finally) The pain is gone and I can actually keep my food done. But back to December...

We spent Christmas day with my in-laws in Jackson Wy. We almost didn't go because of a BIG snow storm, but Todd was confident he could get us there. We spent a few days there and took Alexis skiing for the first time. We almost got Brenton to go too but he changed his mind last minute (he must take after me.) It was a lot of fun!

Then on December 31 Brenton turned 3 years old. I finally threw him a birthday party with his friends. It was a lot of fun and Brenton sure enjoyed it. Thankfully Todd and my mom were there to help with all the little kids!

Now it is January and Brenton started preschool at the local elementary school. He gets to ride the bus (which makes Alexis very jealous!) It was a momentous day (and he was just so cute!) Now I am waiting for springtime.

February 2009 - Woodward, Kevin & Tammy & Family
January marked the birth of our third grandchild, and third granddaughter at that. Baby Maija (pronounced like Maja Cannon, only the Dutch variation) Bessey, was born on Thursday the 22nd. If you ask little Emma Haupt the name of her newborn cousin, she will tell you that her name is Baby Allah. Now Emma can say “Mai”, and she can say “ja”. She can even say “Maija”. But when asked who that baby is, she will maintain that the name is Baby Allah.
Tammy went out to Provo to spend time with Alexis and Ryan prior to Maija’s birth, and for the express purpose of orchestrating the reception committee. Arianna remained at home working away at her BYU online studies, and preparing for her state cosmetology licensing. I had the chance to travel to San Diego on business, working in the section of La Jolla east of I-5. Aaron and Mindy and their family were gracious in allowing me to come and visit with them, as long as the meeting took place west of I-5. Cassie was working the night the Cannon’s and I got together, so I had to settle for a cellular telephonic conversation with her. However, I can report to Grandpa Woodward by way of this medium that, by all indications, Cassie is living an assiduous and productive life in “America’s Finest City”. It was wonderful checking in with them.
Upon returning home from San Diego, Arianna and I bolted for Provo to see the Bessey’s new baby for ourselves. We were extremely pleased with our discovery. We were joined by other members of the family in anticipation of Maija’s blessing. This gave us all a chance to become reacquainted with each other and with 4-month old Charlotte Haupt, who also is as cute as can be. It was tough saying good-bye at the end of our trip. But we look forward to our next get-together.
Love to you all,

January 2009 - Executive Office of Ken Woodward
Dear family,
There is little to report since our last issue. As Aaron well knows, we government and retired government officials always take most of December off on vacation, and in Aaron’s case, it’s not much different during the other eleven month of the year. The only exception is the CHP. We know Adam is out there in the wind and snow valiantly guiding those misguided motorist over Cajon Pass.
This world needs more Adam Cannons. And while on the subject of Adam, how about that picture of those three beautiful children? It’s too bad Torrie and Levi are so cheap.
Christmas here was a success, having received the usual calendar from Price Funeral Home, accompanied by a personal letter from the head man, reminding me how much he appreciated my business in the past, and reminded me that he was available should similar need arise in the future.
The Christmas tree and decorations were down by the early hours of December 26, an activity of which the other two members of the household were in total agreement. Zack’s only lament was he would have to wait another 365 days for a repeat.
The Saturday after Christmas Big Nick (grandpa Shubin) and family came to Sacramento and spent the day with the boys. He’s always a welcome visitor to them. The routine is lunch, a movie, and a visit to Wal-mart, with emphasis on the latter. To them, one can’t have too many gifts.
The most practical Christmas gift for each this year was a white shirt, necktie,, and a dark dress jacket, which incidentally they are very proud of. With the approach of their 12th birthday I thought they needed to start looking the part at church, but I can’t decide whether they look like future general authorities or undertakers.
New Years arrived with little fanfare. They have a standard going-to-bed time which they seem to like, and the dropping of the ball at 9 pm at Time Square was enough evidence for them that year 2009 had safely arrived.
Year 2008 was good to me, health-wise and otherwise, and I hope I can say the same 12 months from now. And each of you likewise.
Love, Dad

January 2009 - Bos, Rick & Kristy
It has been 4 months to the day since Rick and I were married. I haven't written since then, not because I have fallen off the face of the earth, but because I keep missing the deadline by about one day.
It is new Year's Eve and we are about to head to a Brazilian Restaurant in Salt Lake City to bring in the New Year Brazilian style. (Rick went to Brazil on his mission and has kept close ties with Brazil, etc.)
I attended Brenton Wilcox's 3rd birthday party today and in 1 /1/2 hours Tracy and Todd packed in more activities than I can even count. The thought was three years olds have short attention spans so you need to "keep it moving." I loved the pace and the activities. It was the best party I've ever attended and it definitely kept my attention. Tracy can throw my parties any day. Todd and Craig have a birthday today also. If they had been in Utah we would have celebrated their birthdays too. However, they are on their own. I do remind them that the "world is celebrating their birthday," every year but that doesn't seem to hold much water with Todd Christiansen.
We spent Christmas Eve with the Wilcoxes and Nathan Bos, Rick's youngest son. It was a lovely time and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very cold and snowy, and I couldn't help but think about Craig and his trip with his Dad to Canada where they went on a dog sledding trip. As I recall our weather comes from Canada. If we were cold, I am sure Craig was even colder. Haven't heard from him yet, but I anticipate getting a full report on his trip when he returns to Provo in a few days.
Speaking of snow, I am trying to get used to it, but it is still a new adventure to me. When it snowed for the first time on my red sports "California" car, I issued a formal apology to it. I don't think that it quite knew what to make of it. I try to keep the snow road grime off of it, but it seems to be a lost cause. It will just have to make the adjustment just like me.
Life here is good and quite busy. It is the first time in 20 years I have not been in the classroom. I sort of miss it, but I am keeping busy with being a Grandma, and now working at Rick's office as we get ready for a big trade show in Anaheim on January 15. They are introducing several new products to their XP Audio line of music gear, and it is very, very, very busy right now.
Have a wonderful New Year. Until next month,

January 2009 - Cannon, Adam & Erica & Family
December has come and gone, good riddance. It is cold here in sunny Los Angeles. So cold I have to wear a winter suit when I work at night to avoid freezing to death. This month, I was involved with 2 pursuits, one foot chase, two DUI traffic collisions, both involving injuries to innocent people, 15 traffic collisions where people where hurt badly, one "hit and run" collision where the non-at fault party was put in the hospital, and an uncountable number of traffic citations. Plus I put together a bunch of Princess stuff for Christmas. Other than that, it has been a slow month.
Ava can roll over, and scoot a little. She has learned quickly that Daddy is a sucker for a smile and mommy isn't. Annika and Maja continue to destroy our home, sanity and health. Erica is doing great.
That is all.

January 2009 - Haupt, Levi & Torrie & Family
As many of you know we have established a Christmas rotation to visit our parents. Since special events led us to the Woodward's the last 2 years Nana (Levi's mom) was very anxious for us to come home. We originally planned to head home the weekend before Christmas, but a blizzard sized storm and Charlotte having the stomach flu postponed our flight until the morning of Christmas Eve.

Our Apartment Complex
We drove to the airport in another snow storm but were able to take off on time. The two flights (to Chicago and then Portland) were interesting. Emma was wonderful despite not wanting to watch a movie, and Charlotte challenged our preparation skills by throwing up three times on us. We were prepared with clothes for her, but forgot to bring clothes for us in the carry on.
Christmas was wonderful. Our family spoiled Emma with plenty of gifts, but after the first few she was done opening presents and just wanted to play.

A special treat Santa brought me was a bag of cookie mix. This has become a holiday tradition to make Christmas cookies. (Here are pictures of both girls with the traditional bag of cookies, you will notice there are the same pair of pajamas as well, we love traditions).
Charlotte - Christmas 2008

Emma - Christmas 2006
We actually made it to church as a family for the first time in a while since everyone was on the mend. We hope that we can make it to the first meeting block of the new year. The girls wore matching dresses (thanks Aunt Karen - Levi's aunt) and beautiful dress coats (thanks Nana).
The rest of the week was spent visiting high school friends and family and playing Settlers of Catan. We also got some great pictures taken of Charlotte. Thanks Bro. Walker. It was nice to have a break from work and to have things slow down a little at the busy Haupt house. The girls dress pictures and Charlotte's pictures are for another post.
The trip home was tolerable. We almost partied it up for New Year's at the Van home (our cousins on Torrie's mom's side) in Mesa, AZ when there was a weather advisory because yet another storm was hitting the Albany area. However we chanced it and after a quick stint in the Baltimore airport we made it back to New York. Our hero "daddy" braved the -10 degree wind chill to go dig out our car from long-term parking. I am not quite sure what was more eventful, standing in 6 inches of fresh snow and 20 mph winds after 30 minutes of digging the car out and needing a jump and waiting another 30 minutes, or trying to wrangle two very tired girls in an airport, two dirty diapers, hungry infant and an escapee two year old.... We call it a wash! We made it home in one piece and the only residual effect is a very spoiled 3-month old who doesn't want to be put down. It was well worth it and we hope that the holidays were as good for all of you.

January 2009 - McClintock, Robert & Susan
Well 2009 has actually made it past sleepy Father Time and the holidays have bid us adieu.
Susan visited with Emily and Justin in Los Angeles in December and had the additional treat of visiting with Kimber and getting acquainted with sweet Mimi. Now don't keel over Kimber, Mimi is an active and sweet child. All mother's deal with a little naughtiness in their children occasionally but I must say that every one of the children that I have met in this family are sweet and energetic. Wouldn't this be a different world if all the children could have good and loving parents such as are in this family?
December was filled with more choir concerts for Susan. Bob was a commissioned to take a family portrait. The family has eight boys and one girl. It turned out to be a delightful experience. Daughters-in-law and Grandchildren were friendly and cooperative as the fifteen member family organizes into various group shots under Bob's direction.

Grandma Anna is doing well. Since Todd and Sarah are not contributing to the family news wire I shall share something that occurred not long ago. Todd was visiting with Grandma Anna a while back and mentioned that when he was a little boy he thought she was one of his grandmothers but couldn't figure out why he never received any "grandma presents" from her. He can tell the anecdote better than I but the gist of the story was that finally someone explained that Grandma Anna was Emily's grandmother and Todd, putting put two-and-two together, accepted the fact that he would never get a present from Grandma Anna. That little anecdote tickled Grandma Anna so much she refers to it often.
There was a round of layoffs at the television station where Susan works. Her boss, who has also been a friend, and is also a member of the same stake was among the casualties. As it turns out this man was hired at the station as a result of filling in for Susan when she took maternity leave after giving birth to Emily. AND coincidentally Emily was born on his 25th birthday! His journey into the gospel and at KCRA has been an amazing one. Like so many he will be missed.
That gives you a quick overview of McClintock's December 2008.
We wish all a Happy New Year!
